The Centre’s premises are also used for farmers’ days, demonstrations, feed tests and product launches.

Africa’s ever-increasing demand for affordable animal protein, and the conviction that poultry provides this efficiently and effectively, led to the establishment in 1992 of an organization that would address problems specifically associated with poultry production in Southern Africa.

The KwaZulu-Natal Poultry Institute, which was registered as a Section 21 Company (not for gain) in 1992, was the initiative of a group of farsighted members of the industry.

Its mission is to foster long term growth and sustainability of all role-players in the KZN poultry industry through skills development, strategic partnerships, co-ordination, information transfer. The Institute is a centre of excellence for skills development in the poultry industry, building capacity in individuals, contributing to food security and poverty alleviation and assisting in creating a strong poultry industry through co-coordinated and strategic interventions.

The Institute’s activities include:

Co-ordination and information transfer in the poultry industry, drawing role-players together and informing them on matters of mutual importance.
Provision of training in poultry production – focus on capacity building and encouraging the youth into agricultural careers

The facilities provide a neutral venue for workshops and seminars.
