New farmers across South Africa spent time at the Institute in the quest to obtain necessary business skills to start and to improve their projects’ productivity last week. Poultry Business Skills course helps the poultry farmers by equipping them with skills and to better understand the importance of conducting a proper and thorough feasibility study and doing a good and marketable business plan before spending any capital in any business.

On her enthusiastic email to the Institute yesterday, Mabatho Dlamini expressed her gratitude and appreciation: “I have gained so much in a week. The love and interest I have gained on poultry is so amazing, I personally can believe it. Thanks a million. Keep up the good worksaid Mabatho Dlamini, one of the new aspiring farmer who came all the way from Gauteng province.“I would also like to thank you for the knowledge you have implanted on us, indeed it was a fruitful week” she said.

The joy of completing the course was written on their faces as they were receiving their certificates. Sad faces and long goodbyes seen as well as they were leaving after a week of bonding and networking. An hour passed by while they were hugging, shaking hands and exchanging valuable contacts as they were about to leave and embark on their journey back home and back to their struggles to add that little positive change into the poultry industry.

Nkosi Masuku from Nulaid farms said “We thank God for bringing us together and for the knowledge you guys have given us, it was so powerful”.

The Poultry Business Skills course was developed to address the lacking skills by emerging and new entrant farmers which eventually lead to the closure of many projects and sometimes before those projects could even start. The training cover aspects such as how to conduct a successful business feasibility study, writing a business plan, keeping production records, marketing, managing your finances and more. The course is available on NQF level 2 and 3. On the last day of the course the learner walks away with the certificate of Completion■
