Gratton School Visit

KZNPI had the privilege of hosting a group of enthusiastic agricultural learners from Gratton School in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal. The visiting group, made up of Grade 10 to Grade 12 students studying agriculture, spent the day on the farm gaining valuable hands-on experience and insight into the poultry industry.

During their visit, the learners were introduced to the different categories of chickens and learned about their roles within poultry production industry They also had the exciting opportunity to participate in the breakout of unhatched eggs, giving them a closer look at the hatching process. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world agricultural practices.

It was truly encouraging to see so many young people showing a genuine interest in agriculture and the future of food production. Opportunities like this play an important role in inspiring the next generation of agricultural professionals and fostering a deeper understanding of the industry.

A special thank you goes to De Heus for generously sponsoring pens, notepads, lanyards, and chapsticks for the learners. We also extend our appreciation to two of De Heus’ technical advisors, Mlungisi Gwala and Dani van der Merwe, who took the time to engage with the students and share their knowledge and experience. Their contribution added value to the learners’ visit and helped make the day both educational and memorable.
